Tributes to the Icons of Our Times, Reflections on the Meaning of Our Lives ——成外高新2019级第59期Speakers’

成外高新每周三举行的演讲角不仅是少年思想交流和智慧碰撞的平台，也是少年讴歌民族英雄，表达人生志向的地方。5月26日下午，成都外国语学校高新校区高二第59期主题为“缅怀时代偶像，感悟生命真谛”(Tributes to the Icons of Our Times, Reflections on the Meaning of Our Lives)的英语演讲角在孔子广场如期举行。本周演讲角的主持人是来自高二15班的陈嘉琪同学，6位演讲者分别是来自高二8班的王仁杰同学，高二9班的李新宁同学，高二15班的朱惟一、舒一、何蕊含和黄语嫣同学。六位同学在肃穆的气氛中缅怀“中国脊梁”，致敬时代偶像，在他们的人性光辉和不朽精神中感悟人生真谛，抒发人生理想。

以下为精彩演讲内容。

第59期演讲角主持人：高二15班陈嘉琪

高二8班 王仁杰

Oscar Wilde once said, “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” And I believe Yuan Longping was one of those who truly lived. Known as the father of hybrid rice, we shall always remember him because he filled millions of bowls with his awesome efforts. This is his interpretation of meaning of life. I am eager to leave something to the world. I like programming, so I will try my best to design dozens of amazing pieces of software and share them in the community.

王尔德曾说：“生活是世上最罕见的事情，大多数人只是存在，仅此而已。”我认为袁隆平先生是一个真正活过的人。作为杂交水稻之父，我们会永远铭记他，因为他用自己的辛勤努力，解决了全世界的饥饿问题。这便是他对生命的意义最好的诠释。我也想要为这世界留下点什么。我喜欢编程，所以我将努力设计一些很棒的程序，并分享到互联网社群。

高二9班 李新宁

Once during an interview, Yuan Longping was asked whether he was worried about starvation, he answered no confidently. He was not afraid because he had devoted all his life to solving the problem of starvation. He was not afraid because he had never been stopped by any kind of obstacles. So you see, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. We have to think logically about our fears. We ought to face our fears squarely. And we are bound to overcome our fears and ascend a bigger and higher stage.

在一次采访中，袁隆平被问到是否害怕再次看到饥荒，他自信地答到：不怕。不怕，是因为他毕其一生消除饥荒。不怕，是因为他从未被任何阻碍挡住。所以啊，我们唯一应该害怕的是害怕本身。我们要有逻辑地思考恐惧、要直面恐惧，才能克服恐惧，登上更高的舞台。

高二15班 朱惟一

While the whole nation is bidding farewell to Yuan Longping, the renowned “Father of Hybrid Rice”, I can’t help but begin to reflect on the meaning of life. Ignoring the contempt and ridicule of westerners, this great scientist has overcome numerous obstacles to pull Chinese people out of hunger with great determination. Therefore, I’m firmly convinced that the only way to make a life worthwhile is to set a meaningful goal and then work for it with persistence and perseverance, regardless of all the failures and setbacks on the way. The prosperity of modern China is founded on the selfless dedication of countless national heroes like Yuan Longping, who are inspiring Chinese youth to pursue a more meaningful life that is worth living.

在全国人民痛别著名的“杂交水稻之父”袁隆平之际，我不禁开始反思生命的意义。这位伟大的科学家无视西方的冷眼与嘲笑，下定决心，克服万难，终于使中国人民端稳饭碗。因此，我坚信，一个人要实现人生价值，就应该树立一个有意义的目标，坚持不懈为之努力，不畏沿途的失败与与挫折。现代中国的繁荣离不开无数像袁隆平一样无私奉献的民族英雄，他们激励着中国青年追求更有价值和意义的人生。

高二15班 舒一

Although we belong to the lucky generation who have never experienced famine, we should never forget that it is Yuan Longping who has helped Chinese people achieve food security. With a great ambition to save the world from starvation, he has devoted his energy and talent to the research of hybrid rice throughout his life. We are deeply touched by this most romantic scientist who plays the violin in the rice field. His spirit of science and patriotism are an immortal spiritual heritage left for future generations. His extraordinary life has vividly interpreted the meaning of life--live your life to the fullest by creating a better life for the mankind.

我们是从未经历过饥荒的幸运一代，但我们永远不会忘记，是袁隆平帮助中国人民实现了粮食安全。他怀着让世界摆脱饥饿的伟大抱负，将毕生的精力和才华奉献给了杂交水稻的研究。这位在稻田里拉小提琴的浪漫科学家深深地感染着我们，他的科学精神和家国情怀是留给后人的一笔不朽的精神财富。他不平凡的一生形象地诠释了生命的真谛--造福于民，不负此生。

高二15班 何蕊含

Known as “Father of Chinese Hepatobiliary Surgery”, Wu Mengchao has made enormous contributions to China’s world-leading achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases. He was still working as the chief surgeon at an age of 96, trying to fulfill the sacred mission of rescuing the dying. In China’s various fields, there are highly accomplished leading figures like Wu Mengchao. Deeply respected by the people, they are the “the Backbone of China”. They are like beacons for Chinese young people, who are embarking on a journey of seeking the meaning of life.  

中国在肝病诊断和治疗领域取得了举世瞩目的成就，而“中国肝胆外科之父”吴孟超为此做出了不可磨灭的贡献。直到96岁高龄，他仍然奋战在手术一线，履行着治病救人的神圣职责。中国各个领域都有着像吴孟超一样的中流砥柱，他们是德高望重的“中国脊梁”。他们如同一座座灯塔，照耀着年轻一代探索人生意义的征途。

高二15班 黄语嫣

Often confused by multiple values in the society, as the young generation, we can’t help asking ourselves “What is the meaning of life?”. Some people blindly admire Internet celebrities and famous stars, living in the daydream of rising to fame overnight. However, who are the stars really deserving of our admiration? Time has proved that real icons are the fighters who have chosen a fragrant path of thorns and whose outstanding achievements have benefited mankind. In my eyes, they are the brightest stars in the night sky.

面对社会的多元价值带来的困惑，作为年轻一代的我们不禁自问，“生命的真谛是什么?”有的人盲目崇拜网红和明星，在一夜爆红的白日梦中浑浑噩噩。然而，到底谁才是真正值得我们崇拜的明星？时间已经证明，真正的偶像应该是那些选择了一条芬芳的荆棘之路，用自己的杰出成就惠及全人类的勇士们。在我眼中，他们才是夜空中最亮的星。
