As we all know, it would be impossible for any poet to write beautiful poems before mastering basic writing skills, nor would it be possible for Archimedes to be bold enough to say “give me a level and a spot, and I can move the earth” before commanding a solid knowledge in physics and math.

I suddenly realized that my basketball coach told me to do the same practice over and over again so that I can strengthen my basic skills. Because only with solid basic skills, can I advance to more demanding tasks. After that, I practiced eagerly and earnestly and with continuous efforts, I made remarkable progress in my basic skills.

There was an old saying “More haste, less speed.”
I agree with it and believe it is true. When it comes to walk and run, what will you thin
k? When we were little, we learned to walk first. When we are getting a bit order, running becomes natural for us. But what if we learn to run in the first place? The result is obvious. We would definitely fall.

However, someone may say, the modern society is rapidly-developing, and life is like a race, so they think we should learn to run first and there is no need to waste time on slow walking. Do you think
that is right?
I don’t think so. It is likely that those who learn to run first can save more time in the short term, but without the basic ability of walking, the ones who run the fastest are also the ones who might fall worst.

Sometimes we learn something new or face a new life, we should do them step by step. Don’t think too highly of ourselves. Everything should be done step by step. And each of us wants to be successful and each of us is moving forward. Some are walking and some are running. Although we run at different speeds, one thing is the same for us. That is, life is like a piece of land which is covered by newly fallen snow and each step we take will show.

You will never know how to build a house unless you have mastered the knowledge and skills you need; you will never know how to defeat a monster in a game unless you reach a high level; you will never know how to play the piano well unless you keep practicing for a long time.

Since learning is progressive, we are supposed to start from the very first step and make each move steadfastly. Whenever you are eager to explore a new territory, please remember “learn to walk before you can run” and that will prevent you from many painful “bad falls”.
